Peek A Boo Studio Reading Comprehension

Reading Time: 1

As an activity during guided reading, the Peek a Boo Studio Reading Comprehension app is an excellent piece of software to have.

ReadingFreeScreen3I’d recommend using this app with a group at a time, rotating daily. This ensures you’re using ICT in a lesson but also that everybody eventually has a go using the software.

Before I explain how the software works, I just want to mention that it’s completely free!

Once you’ve downloaded the app from the app store, all you have to do is click a button which says “Start Here” and you’ll be taken to a page containing different stories (both fiction and non-fiction) which are sorted by age appropriateness – it is worth noting that this is an American app so they’re divided into 3rd, 4th and 5th grade (Years 4, 5 and 6 in the UK.)

Ask the children to click on the story and they’ll be taken to the text, now all they do is read it and answer the comprehension questions which appear down the side of the page.

It couldn’t be any simpler or any more effective.

The app also stores children’s most recent result next to the story, allowing you to see any progress being made.
